Do I need to go to the ER for a toothache?

Though visiting an ER for a toothache may temporarily minimize pain or an infection, most ERs don't have an emergency dentist on staff who can permanently fix the problem. Our gentle emergency dentist can get to the cause of the problem and create and fulfill a treatment plan to alleviate the pain and fix the underlying issue.

Dental fillings perform a vital function in your oral health. A filling protects a tooth from being compromised by halting the progress of a cavity. When a filling is lost, your tooth is once again susceptible to infection and decay. It is best to contact our emergency dentist immediately so we can schedule an appointment. We will also provide tips and instructions to protect your tooth until you're able to visit our office.

If a tooth is knocked out (avulsed), then it is important to see our emergency dentist as soon as possible. If you are able to recover your tooth, then carefully pick it up by the crown (the top of the tooth), and do not touch the root. Rinse your mouth and tooth in clean lukewarm water. Place the tooth in a glass of milk or saliva and bring it with you for the appointment.
